Movies are a great form of family entertainment – but not every movie is suitable for every member of the family. That’s why Varsity Theatre fully supports and enforces the ratings system outlined by the Motion Picture Association of America.
Varsity Theatre Requires Adult Supervision For Guests Under 17 in R-Rated Movies
Varsity Theatre’s R-Rated policy
At Varsity, no one under the age of 17 (18, in some states) is permitted to see an R-rated movie unless accompanied by a parent or legal guardian 21 years of age or older. Also, To ensure an adult viewing experience, children under the age of 6 are not allowed into any R-Rated feature after 6 p.m. A physical ID is required and IDs will be checked. (Digital ID’s will not be allowed.)
What does the “R” mean?
In the MPAA rating system, R stands for “Restricted.” It means the film may include strong language, intense violence, sexual content, or other mature themes. Viewers under 17 (or 18 in some states) must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Although the MPAA is in no way tied to rule of law—again, it’s a set of suggestions—we use it as a way to set admittance guidelines for our theatre (as do many film screening entities across the country). This is especially true when it comes to R ratings
Here is what the rating letters mean:
Nothing that would offend parents for viewing by children.
Parents urged to give “parental guidance.” May contain some material parents might not like for their young children.
Parents are urged to be cautious. Some material may be inappropriate for pre-teenagers.
Contains some adult material. Parents are urged to learn more about the film before taking their young children with them.
Clearly adult. Children are not admitted.
